Data center site planning calculators

Quick, transparent math for early planning. Every number comes from the inputs you can see. Use them to frame a search, then test real sites against real constraints.

01

How much land for a given load?

Enter the total facility load you are planning for. The range comes from the sizing tiers we use across this site: about 1 acre per MW at the edge and up to roughly 1.5–2 acres per MW for large campuses with room to phase.

MW

Typical land range

240–300 acres

Hyperscale campus

A planning range, not a site plan. Substations, on-site generation, setbacks, stormwater and the shape of the land can push the real number higher. See how much land a data center needs.

02

Gross vs. buildable acreage

Enter a tract’s gross acreage and the share of it you expect to lose to each constraint. The starting percentages are example values only; replace them with what you know about the site.

Estimated buildable

335 acres

33% of the tract set aside

Constraints often overlap, so the true loss can be smaller than the sum, and what matters most is the largest contiguous buildable block, which this does not measure. See gross vs. buildable acreage.

03

From IT load to grid demand and annual energy

Total facility demand is the critical IT load multiplied by PUE. Annual energy is that demand across the 8,760 hours of a year at your expected load factor. PUE and load factor start at example values; set your own.

Facility peak demand

130.0 MW

Annual energy

911 GWh

911,040 MWh per year

Utilities plan around peak demand and the ramp schedule, not just the final number. See how much power a data center needs.
