Emergency planning zone (EPZ)
An emergency planning zone is the area around a nuclear power plant for which emergency response plans are required under federal nuclear regulation. Large reactors have historically used a plume exposure zone of about 10 miles and an ingestion zone of about 50 miles, while smaller reactor designs may justify smaller zones. A data center near a reactor must account for these plans in its siting and operations.
