Substation
A substation is a facility of transformers, breakers and switching equipment that changes voltage and routes power between transmission and distribution lines or to a customer. A large data center usually needs its own substation, or a dedicated expansion of an existing one, to step transmission voltage down for the site. Available transformer capacity at nearby substations is a primary power screen.
